DESCRIPTION

Hi, I’m Sarah B. I’m a lay Buddhist and I’ve been meditating for a couple of decades now and consider the daily practice the anchor of my life . If you want to find out more about my path, I write about it here. This free class happens weekly in EngageXR and Discord. This guided body scanning meditation is a relaxing and immersive experience that combines the power of mindfulness with cutting-edge virtual reality technology. This class invites participants to pause and cultivate inner awareness of the changing nature of our bodies. I've done my best to use the affordances of EngageXR to create virtual environments that soothe and facilitate our time together.

GUIDED BODY SCANNING MEDITATION

This is a 25-minute body-scanning meditation. To ensure I create an environment conducive to our practice, we start promptly at 10 minutes past the hour. Microphones are muted then, but feel free to come in and find a seat and join the sit where we are. Participants are led through a systematic process of directing their attention to different parts of the body, promoting relaxation, body awareness, and mindfulness.   • Find a quiet place in real life

  • Take off your shoes and get comfortable in your real life

  • Ask the people you love not to disturb you for the next 30 minutes or so, in real life.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

EngageXR

If you’re joining us in VR, You’ll need to download the EngageXR app for your VR headset, desktop computer, laptop, or portable device. You can do that here. If you’re unfamiliar with EngageXR, be sure to check out their YouTube channel to assist you with hand control features and navigating in VR, or using your mouse, keypad or phone. In the event of tardiness, kindly click the designated white button, once you land in our world. This will initiate a digital representation of myself, who will explain the ongoing scanning process.

POST MEDITATION DISCUSSION

Feel free to stick around and discuss after our meditation. Sometimes we learn new things about our bodies when we do this work. We may notice subtle or overt pains or discomfort, or may not ‘feel’ anything, at all. The practice is never the same from one day to the next.

NO REQUIREMENTS

No prior meditation experience is necessary, as the class is designed for individuals of all levels of familiarity with meditation practices.
